What is Rigorous Kindness?
It seems pretty obvious that the world would be a better place if there were more kindness in it. RIGOROUS kindness adds a new dimension.
It proposes a conscious and deliberate attitude and approach to the world and behaving within it that will encourage and promote gentler and more mutually supportive relationships among individuals and communities.
The rigour ensures that the kindness is not weak or naive, and can withstand the cynicism and manipulation that prevails in so many places today.
Rigorous Kindness is grounded in the ideals and principles of Progressive Judaism and we believe it has something important to offer to the wider world.
The Jewish roots of Rigorous Kindness:
לֹא עָלֶיךָ הַמְּלָאכָה לִגְמֹר
וְלֹא אַתָּה בֶן חוֹרִין לִבָּטֵל מִמֶּנָּה
'You are not required to complete the work, but neither are you at liberty to abstain from it.'
